Another two successful competition in the bag! Congratulations PDC dancers, our technique and performance scores are proof that all your hard work is paying off.
In April, we returned to really focusing on performance quality in our ballet classes. Somehow we struggle still to let go of our upper bodies in ballet, so I have been encouraging the dancers to connect to how they feel when they are doing lyrical and contemporary. It’s a work in progress, but we will get there….
We have been working on our turns and jumps more and more, to support all those skills the dancers bring to the stage at competitions. I still use the tally system in some classes, and the “winners” get to be acknowledged on our FB social media. It has pushed some dancers to really bring out their best.
In our Pointe classes, we had a 30 minute class demonstration and a mini-show for parents the week of April 15-18. This was scheduled so the parents could see their dancers’ progress, as well as get a chance to see them perform on pointe. The Advanced Pointe ladies performed the “Bluebird” variation from Sleeping Beauty, the Intermediate Pointe ladies performed a dance they choreographed, and the Beginner Pointe ladies performed a collaboration of teacher/student choreography. It was a lovely week.
Now in May we will finish the competition season strong, and get ready for one last push in the summer before auditions. Keep the momentum going, dancers!
