Comp Levels & Scoring
First Call: This level is for dancers who have competed for less than 3 years, or dancers may participate in this level that have competed for more than three years, but do not exceed 3 hours of total dance education per week including rehearsal time. This division is for the performer just starting their competition experience.

Ovation: This level is for dancers who have competed for 3 to 5 years, or dancers may participate in this level that have competed for more than 5 years but do not exceed 5 hours of total dance education per week including rehearsal time. This division is for students that are in transition; not a beginner, but not quite ready for the advanced level.

Encore: This level is for dancers who have competed for 6 or more years, or dancers may participate in this level that have competed for less than 6 years, but exceed 6 hours of total dance education per week including rehearsal time. This division is for the performer with considerable competition experience. In this level, the performer should be capable of a higher level of technique and performance skills. High Score and cash will be awarded.

TINY TOTS and PETITES CAN NOT COMPETE IN THE ENCORE LEVEL.

LEVEL PLACEMENT GUIDELINES

• A performer may compete in only two levels. If a performer is entered in one division as a solo, then they must remain in that division for all solo routines. Teachers, please use your best judgment when placing your students in a level. Don’t use the level to divide up your routines.
• First Call – any dancer doing clean triple pirouettes, or comparable skill, needs to move to the Ovation level.
• Ovation – any dancer doing clean triple (or more) pirouettes, or comparable skill, needs to move to the Encore level.
• Changes to levels will not be accepted at the event. All level inquiries must be made no less than 14 days prior to event.
• Please note there will only be FIRST CALL and OVATION levels available in the Tiny Tot and Petite category. Levels are for Tiny Tot, Petite, Junior, Teen and Senior divisions only. Adult, Teacher/Pro and Parent Presentation are not leveled and are eligible for high score awards in their division only. Duet/Trios must compete in the highest level of the highest level dancer.
• Please note Applause Talent reserves the right to move any routine level accordingly. Applause does not bump up or down levels.
• Productions are not leveled.

AGE DIVISIONS
Tiny Tot: 5 and under
Petite: 6-8 years
Junior: 9-11 years
Teen: 12-14 years
Senior: 15-19 years

Please remember that dance judging is very subjective. The judges change year to year, each competition has a different scoring system and judges come from all different backgrounds.

TROPHY OPT OUT PROGRAM
We have opted into the Trophy Opt Program. In Mary Ann’s honor, we have implemented the Trophy Opt Out Program. If your studio would like to opt out of receiving trophies (for duet/trio and group routines), Applause Talent will donate the proceeds to St Jude, Susan G Komen, The American Cancer Society or Dancers Against Cancer on behalf of your studio. Your studio will receive a commemorative plaque for your contribution.

Dressing Rooms /Practice Space
This year dressing rooms and practice space will be different per venue. There will always be a assigned space for our studio/block. There will be a limit to how many parents are allowed backstage so please make sure to read through competition rules above. Dancers must be fully ready prior to coming to the venue and only use dressing rooms for costume changes. Practice space will also be determined once staff is in the venue so please make sure to find out from your instructor where practicing will take place.

Texting Updates
Because competition schedules are constantly changing and/or going out of order, it is difficult to give an exact time and meeting place for each group, as it will change throughout the day. Please pay attention to the order, use the app, and know that each routine is about 3 mins to know what time we will go on. Luckily, the Hyatt is small so you will be able to find someone.  Keep your phone by your side for texting updates.
